Instead of expensive foreign counterparts, surgeons are now using a domestic development. To date, 25 operations have been performed using it, all of which have been successful.
This project is the result of a collaborative effort between the National Scientific Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics, the National Biotechnology Center, and the East Kazakhstan Technical University. Titanium intervertebral discs are manufactured in Ust-Kamenogorsk and have already earned the trust of doctors.
As orthopedic traumatologist Jangir Ipmagambetov explains, the Kazakhstani implant has significant advantages. Its design is more mesh-like, which enhances the fusion of bone tissue. The serrated walls of the implanted element simplify its installation and help prevent potential displacement. Moreover, its cost is six times lower than that of foreign counterparts previously purchased from the USA, Europe, and China.
Interestingly, this domestic development has already caught the attention of foreign specialists. This is not only an important step for Kazakhstani medicine but also an opportunity to make treatment more accessible for patients.
