KP.RU: The year 2025 will be unique according to numerologists

Mathematicians assert that the upcoming year of 2025 will be remarkable because the number itself is truly special. But what makes it so? You won't believe it.

MYSTERIOUS SQUARE

Let’s write down all the digits from 0 to 9. That is, all the digits. Because a number is just a number, and there are infinitely many. A digit, however, is a symbol. There are only ten of them. There are no others.

So,

0..1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8..9

Now let’s sum them up:

0+1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 = 45

And now we square it:

45х45=2025.

Amazing, isn't it?

And you realize that this has never happened before, and it won’t happen again. There are other square years (we'll discuss those), but they are not complete. For instance, 44 squared (1936) has all the digits, but lacks a one. Here, however, we have all of them.

While people predict outcomes based on anything, from coffee grounds to how a sweater falls on the floor, they rarely pay attention to dates, that is, the numbers of the years. They chase beautiful combinations like "day-month-year," for example, 08-08-08 (which were more common in the early 2000s). But that’s not quite the same.

I have a childhood memory that suggests these matters should be taken more seriously.

On December 31, 1981, during the Blue Light broadcast, the whole country was glued to their screens, and I was spinning between the table and the black-and-white “box.”

The poet Andrey Voznesensky performed: strangely, I knew him and recognized him as a poet, but at that moment, I had no idea what he had written. What could you expect from a child?

Rocking to the rhythm of his words, Voznesensky began to read, and what I heard captivated me. In his poem, he mentioned that we look at bus tickets to see if we have a lucky number, right?

Indeed, we used to twist the bus tickets ourselves. You sit down, drop a coin into the slot, twist it, and it pops out, and you tear it off. And you always check if it’s lucky. A number is considered lucky when the sum of the first half equals the sum of the second half. I used to collect such tickets, which is why I became interested in the poem.

And then the poet said, 1982 – isn’t that a lucky number? So everything will be good.

That’s how I remember it, but here’s the text (the poem has been published multiple times):

What do you promise in the New Year, Moscow?

What do you want me to understand?

One-nine-eight-two,

In theory, a lucky number.

From the sum of these digits —

Ten on the right and ten on the left —

A great cipher emerges:

Be happy, people, it seems.

As we can see, the poet seems to doubt, something I, as a straightforwardly perceiving teenager, didn’t feel at the moment. In reality, there was nothing particularly good about 1982. Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev passed away. Essentially, a new era began, which nobody realized at the time. But was it "happiness"? No, certainly not. Brezhnev was loved, he was pitied, genuinely, so where's the happiness in that?

Nevertheless, it stuck in my memory: there are special year numbers, we need to keep an eye on them.

YEAR OF LOVE AND ENLIGHTENMENT

So what does the unique ratio embedded in "2025" bring? I looked into what numerologists say. You might laugh, but they didn’t even notice the ratio. Mathematicians did, but they won’t indulge in predictions. Numerologists will, but they overlooked it. A dead end.

Of course, numerologists interpreted the meanings of the digits in 2025, but they got caught up in something else:

2+0+2+5=9

And the number nine is quite significant, important.

Let’s set aside the numerologists for now: what do I (not a predictor) know about this number?

In various cultures, this number is not simple; it’s sacred. People in ancient times lived by the lunar calendar. Therefore, they understood what a month was. Pregnancy lasts 9 months. People noticed this, probably as far back as the Mesolithic, and regarded the number nine with special significance. Moreover, there’s evidence that the year lasted 9 months. In some incomprehensible way. So, we read about the poet Orpheus, who lived even before Homer, that is, a long time ago:

And after a year, Aphrodite was born…

This line troubled even ancient commentators. Was the year really that short in ancient times? Or did they divide the year into 9 months, conditionally? The ancients didn’t know, and we do not know either.

What do numerologists say? Honestly, they present disappointingly banal observations. The number nine symbolizes personal growth. One should delve into oneself, seek enlightenment. Additionally, the nine represents love, so 2025 is the Year of Love. As for careers, it seems, things aren’t so rosy. "You need to stop, reflect on why you are working, what your life goal is," they write. So, no significant career advancement is expected, clearly.

Overall, the advice is good, but love is a value for all times, and seeking enlightenment should ideally be a constant endeavor, not something to wait for until the digits sum to 9. In general, the advice isn’t particularly beneficial, but it’s not harmful either. Good advice.

But what does 2025 promise if we listen to mathematicians? Let’s employ a historical method and look at what other years of mathematical interest have marked their significance.

SQUARE YEARS

Let’s repeat: there are no analogs to 2025. Simply, the sum of all digits yields, as we’ve seen, 45. The year 45 AD? That was a long time ago, and they didn’t count years from the birth of Christ back then. And the cube of 45 is a year far in the future, which hasn’t arrived yet. So, we must believe that a truly special year is approaching, so special that it’s impossible to guess what it is. If only we knew what it is. But we don’t know what it is.

However, there was a special year, 1729. Because this number is known as Hardy-Ramanujan's number. At one point, Professor Hardy decided to visit the mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan in the hospital. He took a taxi with the number 1729, and upon arriving, he said:
