The undefeated Kazakh champion, Janibek Alimkhanuly, who holds the WBO and IBF middleweight titles, is likely to have his next fight in Kazakhstan, reports Caravan.kz.
Insider Dan Rafael shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account that a potential opponent for the Kazakh champion has even been identified.
“According to sources, Janibek Alimkhanuly, holder of two of the four titles in the middleweight division, is close to agreeing on a title defense against undefeated Englishman Shaquille Thompson in April/May in Alimkhanuly's homeland of Kazakhstan, where he hasn't fought since his second professional bout in 2017. Thompson's first warm-up fight is scheduled for February 7,” notes Dan Rafael.
It’s worth mentioning that besides having a perfect record, Thompson holds the regional WBO Global and IBF European titles.
The insider did not specify which city in Kazakhstan Alimkhanuly will fight in, however, Sport+ previously reported that the champion's promoters — American Top Rank — are considering organizing a boxing event on April 5 in Astana.
