The undefeated Kazakh fighter Sultan Zaurbek, competing in the second lightweight division, expressed his hopes of stepping into the ring against the undefeated WBA lightweight champion, American Gervonta Davis, as reported by Caravan.kz.
In an interview with Sport+, Zaurbek mentioned that he is not deterred by the two weight classes that separate him from Davis.
“Everyone is anticipating my fight with Gervonta, but that guy fights two weight classes above me. I have faced two champions in my weight class, which is why news about a potential bout with Gervonta has surfaced. He’s just a man, with two arms and two legs. Of course, he’s a powerful knockout artist and a hardworking guy, but undefeated champions can also be knocked down. So I’m ready,” said Sultan Zaurbek.
Meanwhile, while waiting for a big fight, Zaurbek hopes that the IBF will find him a worthy opponent.
“The IBF is doing an excellent job. For instance, if a boxer is a clear contender, you will definitely get a fight. Soares, who is taller than me, insists that we organize a fight for the interim championship belt, but it’s still uncertain,” Zaurbek assured.
This refers to the undefeated Filipino Charlie Soares, who has indeed expressed a desire to contest the interim championship title with the "Kazakh King of Knockouts" Zaurbek.
