The match of the fifth round took place in Almaty and ended with a score of 2:0 in favor of the guests, reports Vesti.kz.
The red card and the goal from a free kick determined Kazakhstan's fate in the Nations League.
Thanks to this victory, the Austrians collected 10 points and climbed to the top of Group 3 (the match between Slovenia and Norway has yet to be played), while the Kazakhs, with only 1 point, remain in last place, fourth position, losing their theoretical chances of staying in Division B.
In five matches, Stanislav Cherchesov's team drew with Norway (0:0) and lost to Slovenia (0:3, 0:1) and Austria (0:4, 0:2). They have still not scored a goal in the current tournament, with a tally of 0-10.
Perhaps luck will be on their side in the final group stage match against Norway on November 17 in Oslo.
It is worth noting that in Leagues B, C, and D, group winners advance to the higher division, while the last teams in Leagues A, B, and C are relegated to the lower division. Teams from League A that finish third, along with second-placed teams from League B; third-placed teams from League B and second-placed teams from League C; as well as the two best fourth-placed teams from League C and the two teams that finish second in League D, will compete for promotion/relegation in March 2025. Since there are 4 groups in League C and only 2 in League D, the teams relegating from Division C to Division D will be determined in the playoff matches in March 2025.
