After two days of the Winter Universiade 2025, the Kazakhstan team has secured 4 medals, all won by representatives in freestyle mogul. Correspondent Caravan.kz reached out to the head coach of the RK freestyle mogul team, Elena Kruglykina, to learn more about how such results were achieved.

On the first day of the Universiade 2025 in Turin, the first gold medal was claimed by Anastasia Gorodko (also a three-time junior world champion) in individual mogul, while on the second day, the mogul athletes brought home another 3 medals in parallel mogul.

A Kazakhstan final took place among the girls, with the top 2 positions contested by Kazakhstani athletes. In a direct duel, Anastasia Gorodko emerged victorious, securing the second gold for the country at the Universiade, while the silver medal was won by the team’s flag bearer, Ayauym Amrenova.

Among the boys, Anton Bondarev clinched the silver medal, while fellow Kazakhstani Fedor Bugakov finished fourth after losing in the small final.

Thanks to this success, Kazakhstan climbed to 2nd place in the unofficial team standings with 4 medals (2 golds and 2 silvers). Head coach Elena Kruglykina expressed satisfaction with her athletes’ performances but noted that there could have been more medals.

“I am satisfied with the results. However, it’s a pity that Fedor Bugakov couldn’t fully recover after his surgery. We aimed for five medals. But we understand it’s all in the hands of the sports gods,” said Elena Kruglykina.

Addressing questions about the level of competition in mogul at the Universiade, Kruglykina emphasized that the medals were not easily won, and achieving them without effort would have been unlikely.

“The level of opponents at Universiade 2025 is quite serious, with peers from teams in Japan, Finland, and Germany — these are athletes who participate in the World Cup. So the competitions were exciting,” concluded Elena Kruglykina.
