The Kazakhstan national team currently holds the 8th position in the unofficial team standings of the Winter Universiade 2025, taking place in Turin, Italy, as reported by Caravan.kz.
With just 4 days remaining in the World Winter Student Games, the Kazakh team has secured a total of 11 medals, including 3 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze.
Among the gold medals, student Anastasia Gorodko from KazAST, a three-time junior world champion, earned two in freestyle mogul (individual and parallel). Another top honor was achieved by biathlete Nikita Akimov, a student at Miras University, who won gold in the 10 km sprint.
Two silver medals were contributed by Paralympian Denis Zinov, a KazAST student (class LW3), in both the sprint and the 10 km race. Additionally, one silver medal each was brought home by flag bearer Aulym Amrenova, a student at Al-Farabi KazNU (freestyle mogul, parallel), and Anton Bondarev, a student at KazAST (freestyle mogul, parallel).
Paralympian Roman Kurbanov, a KazAST student (class NS3), returned with two bronze medals, also in the sprint and the 10 km race. The other two bronze medals were won by former Russian athlete Sofia Samodelkina in figure skating and biathlete Arina Kryukova, a KazAST student (sprint, 7.5 km).
Meanwhile, the Kazakhstan student ice hockey team, which includes the second flag bearer Abylaihan Suleimenov, has exited the Universiade early, losing to the Slovak team in the quarter-finals and finishing without any medals.
