Tokayev has appointed Kanat Sharlapayev as his assistant.

On February 28, 2025, Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev appointed a new aide, Kanat Sharlapaev. Previously, Sharlapaev served as the Minister of Industry and Construction.

The relevant document was published by the press service of Akorda.

"By the decree of the Head of State, Sharlapaev Kanat Bisimbaevich has been appointed Assistant to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Economic Affairs, and he has been relieved of his previous position," the official statement noted.

Kanat Sharlapaev was born on July 9, 1981, in the Saratov region of Russia. He graduated from the Saratov State Socio-Economic University with a degree in "Accounting and Auditing," and from Cranfield School of Management in the UK (Master's degree, specialty in "Finance and Management").

He began his career in 2006 at the investment bank Citi (UK, Czech Republic), where he worked until 2015.

From 2015 to 2020, he held various positions at Citibank Kazakhstan and Citibank Russia. In 2020-2022, he served as Regional Director for Strategy, Planning, and Analysis in Emerging Markets of Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe at Citi (UAE).

Since February 2022, he has held the position of Chairman of the Management Board and Member of the Board of Directors of JSC "National Management Holding "Baiterek."

Since September 4, 2023, he has been leading the Ministry of Industry and Construction.

On January 25, 2025, he took on a new role, heading the Rugby Federation.

Today, Tokayev also made several other appointments. Thus, Zhandos Shaimardanov was relieved of his position as Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms. The agency is now headed by Aset Irgaliev.
