The head of state noted that various negative factors impacted economic development in 2024. However, the situation remained under control, and government agencies prevented any deterioration.
"Overall, one can say that the results are decent. The past year ended with positive indicators, but we cannot become complacent. There are still many problems that need solutions. This is known by both experts and citizens. First and foremost, the task of diversifying the economy has not been fully accomplished. The economy remains highly dependent on the National Fund. It is essential to highlight that the National Fund is an integral part of the economy, and the investment activity of businesses is at an insufficient level. These shortcomings must be addressed this year. The government should take concrete measures," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
He added that an extended government meeting is taking place against the backdrop of radical changes in the world. Global processes may significantly affect the economic situation in Kazakhstan.
"It should also be noted that the transition to a new technological order, based on total digitalization, will lead to the creation of fundamentally new realities in the world. We need to be prepared for this. Successful adaptation to new realities will be a determining factor for Kazakhstan's competitiveness and sustainable progress," the president emphasized.
The president will primarily assess the effectiveness of the government and akims based on the results of economic development and improvements in the quality of life for citizens.
Earlier, the prime minister announced that necessary agreements for the construction of the first nuclear power plant will be concluded in the near future.
