This became known today, November 8, through information published on the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kazakhstan.
"The message from the territorial election commission of the Talgar district of Almaty region regarding the elections for the akim of the city of Talgar scheduled for December 15, 2024," the statement reads.
Previously, the position of akim of Talgar was held by Bakyt Kurishbekov, who won the elections in June 2022. Before that, he served as the executive secretary of the Talgar district branch of the Amanat party.
However, on October 15, 2024, Kurishbekov was relieved of his duties "for improper performance of his responsibilities." His deputy, Matan Sagyndyk, lost his position for the same reason. This occurred following the high-profile murder of a teenager in Talgar.
On the night of October 4, a mass brawl took place in Talgar, during which 16-year-old Sherzat Polat died from a stab wound. The investigation into the murder is being conducted under five articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with 11 suspects arrested.
