He noted that the agency was calculating various scenarios regarding the impact of the trade war between the USA and China on Kazakhstan.
"There was a concern about the influx of Chinese goods due to the closure of the American market. The answer is this: China produces a very large number of various goods, and the demand for Chinese products in America differs from that in Kazakhstan, meaning preferences vary. Therefore, an influx is not expected," said Kairat Torebaev.
He explained that many Chinese companies operate exclusively for the American market, where purchasing power is significantly higher than in Kazakhstan. The types of goods that are in demand in the USA differ from those in Kazakhstan.
"Moreover, redistributing such goods to the Kazakh market is quite complicated because they need to undergo new certification and registration in Kazakhstan. There are certain barriers that Chinese producers will need to overcome first. Secondly, whether there will be demand for such goods in Kazakhstan is also a question," the Deputy Minister concluded.
It was previously reported that China responded to the USA with tariffs on coal and liquefied natural gas. This measure was taken in response to President Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs on goods from China.
