According to the press service of the Mazhilis, during his speech, Yerlan Koshanov informed his colleagues about the outcomes of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the CSTO.
"Thanks to the coordinated efforts with our partners, all tasks set before the CSTO during the Republic of Kazakhstan's chairmanship have been accomplished. At the meeting in Astana, the presidents of our countries highly praised the activities carried out during Kazakhstan's chairmanship and adopted several important documents aimed at further developing the organization. We are grateful to our partners for their support in the successful implementation of these initiatives. I am confident that through close coordination and mutual consideration of interests, we will continue our common course towards the consistent development and strengthening of the parliamentary dimension of the CSTO," said the speaker of the Mazhilis.
During the Kazakhstan chairmanship, the CSTO deepened its cooperation with interested countries and international organizations operating in the field of security.
Contacts between the CSTO and the CIS and SCO continued to develop. In October of this year, a traditional meeting in the CSTO – CIS – SCO format took place in Moscow, where the alignment of fundamental political principles and statutory provisions of these organizations was noted.
In 2024, it will mark 20 years since the CSTO received observer status at the UN. Additionally, in November of this year, a joint resolution on cooperation between the UN and the CSTO was adopted in New York.
0During his speech, the speaker of the Mazhilis emphasized that the Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO allows member states to maintain a constructive dialogue on pressing issues of security and stability.
In recent years, the assembly has adopted a number of important model legislative acts addressing key aspects of collective security. In particular, documents have been adopted in the fields of information and biological security, combating terrorism and extremism, and countering the illegal drug trade.
1Yerlan Koshanov also highlighted that under Kazakhstan's chairmanship, special attention was paid to preparations for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.
As a result of the meeting, an address from the Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO was adopted in connection with the upcoming anniversary.
As part of the events of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO, a meeting was held between the heads of parliamentary delegations and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. Yerlan Koshanov conveyed greetings from the head of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to the President of Russia and informed him about the high intensity of Kazakhstan-Russia interparliamentary relations.
2Next year, the chairmanship of the CSTO will pass to the Kyrgyz Republic.
Alongside the Kazakh side, the meeting was attended by delegations led by the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeenko, the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Shakiev, the Chairman of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, as well as the Deputy Secretary-General of the CSTO Taalatbek Masadykov, the Secretary of the CSTO PA Sergey Pospelov, and representatives from the Republic of Serbia, the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
