The incident occurred on January 18, 2025, in one of the high-rise buildings in the Baikonyr district, located on A. Zhubanov Street.
"We smelled smoke coming from the neighboring apartment, and the residents of the building called for help from the rescuers. No one answered the calls or knocks, so the emergency services had to enter the apartment through the window using a three-section ladder," the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.
The agency reminded residents to:
- never leave the kitchen unattended while cooking;
- keep towels, paper, oven mitts, and other flammable items away from the stove;
- avoid leaving wooden spoons in a hot frying pan;
- fill the frying pan with oil no more than one-third full. Oil is a flammable liquid that can ignite spontaneously at temperatures above 350 degrees;
- not place wet products in the frying pan; wipe them with a towel before frying to prevent oil splatter;
- keep electrical cords away from the stove;
- never pour water on burning oil.
On January 18, in the Kairat microdistrict of the Turksib district of Almaty, personal belongings and furniture caught fire in an apartment on the seventh floor of a ten-story residential building. Rescuers evacuated 14 people.
