According to the case materials, the senior son of the defendant set fire to firewood, coal, and household waste in the stove, and also threw a plastic bottle with an unidentified substance into the stove, causing the flames to flare up and resulting in a fire. As a result of the fire, five children lost their lives.
"The defendant's guilt under part 3 of article 292 of the Criminal Code is proven by her confessions, witness testimonies, the protocol of the crime scene inspection, and the conclusions of forensic examinations," the regional court's press service reported.
It is noteworthy that the prosecutor requested the court to impose a sentence of five years of probation on the woman. However, the judge sentenced her to five years of actual imprisonment but with a deferment due to the fact that the defendant has a minor child.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Children's Rights in the Kostanay region, Nesibeli Basenova, shared details of the tragedy that occurred in Zhitikara. On October 11, 2024, five children died as a result of the fire.
