In Almaty and other cities in Kazakhstan, police have seized weapons that were stolen during the January unrest.

According to the press service of the Almaty Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Organized Crime Unit of the Almaty Police Department, in collaboration with the staff of the city's detention center, uncovered a cache in the Turksib district. They seized three sawed-off shotguns, three pistols, four grenades, and about 50 rounds of ammunition, as well as a carbine that had been stolen from a gun shop during the events of January. Similar joint operations by the Organized Crime Unit and the Prison Service were conducted in Taraz, where a cache containing two sawed-off shotguns and a combat crossbow, also stolen during the January riots, was found.

In Aktobe, operatives from the Organized Crime Unit and the Prison Service seized a TOZ rifle with 56 rounds and an F-1 grenade from a local gardening society.

In the Almaty region, two shotguns, an RGD-5 grenade, and 20 Kalashnikov rifle cartridges were discovered, along with two Makarov pistols that were reported stolen during the January events.

In Taldykorgan, operatives from the Organized Crime Unit seized five traumatic pistols from a local resident's vehicle based on received information.

"Over the past two years, units combating organized crime have seized more than a thousand units of illegal weapons, including 130 that were stolen during the January events. This work is under special control by the Ministry of Internal Affairs," noted Kuan-dyk Alpyss, a representative of the department for combating organized crime at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Additionally, internet scammers have set up an office in one of the major business centers in Almaty.
