A journalist from the Telegram channel "Patriot" inquired with the lawyer of the detained individual about the reasons for her client's lack of citizenship.
"He has his own story, his own life challenges. There were certain circumstances that prevented him from obtaining Kazakhstan citizenship," – replied Yevgenia Tolstova.
It was also revealed that the state is covering Tolstova's fees for the man, as he cannot afford a private attorney. Judge Madiyar Battalov of the Saransk City Court has remanded him for two months, which corresponds to the investigation period.
According to the detainee, he did not intend to kill anyone. He only wanted to intimidate the shop assistant but did not expect her desperate resistance and struggle. On the morning of January 22, he took a taxi from Karaganda to Saransk, but he did not have any money to pay for the ride. Consequently, he left his mobile phone as collateral with the driver, promising to return with the cash later.
To obtain money, he decided to rob a store at the entrance to Saransk. He was aware that no one would stop him from taking the cash from the register.
"He faces a prison sentence of 10 to 15 years. In exceptional cases, the term may be extended," – reports the Telegram channel "Patriot."
The arrested man is married. He worked in a construction specialty at one of the LLPs in Karaganda.
The robber inflicted knife wounds to the woman's abdomen for a total of 30,000 tenge.
