The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan reported that this concerns a crime committed back in October 2018:
"The suspect embezzled 55 million tenge from one of the banks in Almaty through fraudulent money transfers. Currently, the individual is in custody abroad."
Previously, the man was placed on an international wanted list for committing a particularly large-scale theft. Ultimately, the trail of the 38-year-old suspect was found in Sweden, where he was detained by local police at the request of the National Central Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.
In September 2024, police in Astana, in collaboration with their colleagues from Russia, apprehended a Kazakhstani citizen who was on the international wanted list, suspected of committing fraud amounting to 16 million tenge, which is considered a particularly large sum.
