A Greek citizen unexpectedly discovered that she owes 31 million to a stranger from Shymkent.

A former resident of Kazakhstan, now a citizen of Greece, traveled to Shymkent to claim the inheritance left to her by her late father, but she was unable to return to her new homeland.
Гражданка Греции случайно обнаружила, что должна 31 миллион незнакомцу из Шымкента.

According to vera.kz, before her departure, a bailiff located the woman and stated that she would not be allowed to return to Greece until she repaid a debt to a citizen of Kazakhstan, specifically – 31 million tenge.

It was revealed that the Shymkent court had already ruled in favor of the plaintiff regarding the debt recovery, and new assets of the heiress – a plot of land and a house – were seized.

"It turned out that there was a court hearing on October 27, and I was declared a debtor. Allegedly, I borrowed 31 million from some man in Astana in 2022. Moreover, there are no receipts," said Greek citizen Ksenia Kalpakidu.

She moved from Kazakhstan to Greece in 1995. Since then, she has not visited her historical homeland. The only time she came back was for her father's funeral in 2023 and to handle the inheritance.

The first-instance court was conducted in a simplified manner and without the participation of the parties, although the amount of the debt typically does not allow for such a process, according to the woman's lawyers. Her appeal was denied due to missed deadlines. Now her attorney is trying to restore those deadlines to challenge the court ruling.

The foreigner herself believes that the unknown man thought she would not come to settle the inheritance and decided to claim her deceased father's property in this way.

Earlier, a verdict was issued in Shymkent against a woman who killed her six-year-old niece. She tied the girl's hands and drowned her in the bathtub.
