According to the senior prosecutor, the lawyers were unable to "clear" the criminal's name.
"The court examined the case for about a year. During this time, Djumaheldiev's defenders tried to present him to the court and the public as a patriot of his country, a national hero who helped citizens and protected them during those tragic events in January. Despite the efforts organized by Djumaheldiev and his defenders to clear his name, we managed to prove otherwise. We demonstrated that Djumaheldiev was leading a criminal organization, an armed gang, as early as 2016, long before those events, which included similar representatives of the criminal underworld."Mukhit Rysbekov
The senior prosecutor noted that members of the Wild Arman gang acted under his instructions in Republic Square and other areas of Almaty. They engaged in "mass riots, abducted peaceful citizens, held them against their will, and subjected them to beatings, all while filming it on mobile phones."
It was previously reported that a verdict was announced in Almaty regarding one of the most high-profile cases in the history of modern Kazakhstan concerning the events of January. Among the key figures are Arman Djumaheldiev, known as Wild Arman, as well as the former head of the KNB Ruslan Iskakov and ex-deputy of the Almaty maslikhat Kairat Kudaybergen.
Later, the court provided clarifications and revealed further details.
