Everything occurred in the evening on the outskirts of the city, reports KTK. A team of workers from the "Kyzylzhar Su" company was replacing an old pipe in a sewage collector. At the moment when one of the workers struck a concrete pipe with a jackhammer, a spark flew out. According to preliminary versions, this spark was the cause of the explosion. The injured were taken away by ambulance. The oldest among them is 58 years old, while the youngest is 29.
"Four of them have been hospitalized with a diagnosis of 'thermal burns to the facial skin' of the first and second degree, covering a total area of 3%. As of today, their condition is stable and of moderate severity. One patient with a diagnosis of 'thermal burn to the auricles' has been sent home, meaning that initial treatment was done, medical assistance provided, and they will be monitored further at the clinic." Medical staff report that all five are already on the mend.
An investigation into the violation of labor regulations has been initiated. However, at the company where the injured worked, they are confident that safety protocols were followed by the employees.
"The gas analyzer was checked; it worked for literally about 30, maybe even 40 minutes. I might be off by a few minutes; there was no gas. They were dismantling the old pipe, and a spark occurred, along with some residual gas from that old pipe. Sewage is a product of life processes.
