The State Technical Service (GTS) has reached out to Kazakh citizens regarding calls from numbers starting with +870, Tengrinews.kz reports.
According to GTS, the telephone code +870 belongs to the Inmarsat satellite communication system, which is used for communication at sea, in the air, and in remote areas.
"However, fraudsters are actively using such numbers for scams, as they visually resemble Kazakh numbers," the message states.
Scammers may also use other similar Inmarsat codes:
- +870 - general access code to the network (SNAC);
- +871 - Atlantic Ocean, East (AOR-E);
- +872 - Pacific Region (POR);
- +873 - Indian Ocean (IOR);
- +874 - Atlantic Ocean, West (AOR-W).
It is noted that the telephone code +870 is general and is used when it is unknown which satellite the calls are made through. However, SNAC does not support calls to Inmarsat-A terminals.
"Do not call back unknown numbers with the code +870 and similar ones! Do not share personal information, codes from SMS, or your bank card details. If you receive a request for a code or any information from such a number, it is a clear sign of fraud. Never share any information," GTS warned.
Recall that earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan and the main department for investigating particularly important cases of the Investigative Committee of Armenia conducted a joint special operation in Yerevan. As a result of the operation, the activities of two call centers of fraudsters were suppressed.
