It is essential to plan ahead with these 10 simple steps in case of an earthquake:
- Stay calm, DO NOT PANIC!
- Avoid using elevators and stairs during tremors;
- Move away from furniture, windows, and chandeliers;
- Find a secure shelter:
- If you are on upper floors, take a position in a corner of the load-bearing walls;
- Leave the building (in high-rise buildings - after the shaking stops);
- Turn off water, gas, and electricity;
- Grab your emergency kit (prepared in advance);
- Stay away from power lines, buildings, and trees;
- Be prepared for aftershocks;
- Assist the elderly and individuals with health issues.
Recall that on October 24, Emergency Situations Minister Chingis Arinov announced the establishment of the "Alatau" southern base in Almaty in case of a devastating earthquake. According to the head of the agency, a tent city for the affected will be set up at the base in the event of an earthquake.
"The site is already prepared. There will also be points for receiving humanitarian aid and other necessary support facilities. The approaches to forming the state material reserve have been reviewed. In the nomenclature, Soviet-era goods have been replaced with global standards. For the first time, medical kits and evacuation backpacks for the affected have been included in the list," he noted earlier.
