In Almaty, the detained bloggers have been arrested for a duration of two months, as reported by Tengrinews.kz, citing the city police department's press service.
"By a court ruling, the measure of restraint in the case of the bloggers suspected of extortion has been set as detention for a period of two months," the police department stated in response to an official inquiry from the editorial office.
It is worth noting that the detention of bloggers in Almaty became known on January 23. At that time, it was reported that they were detained following a complaint from a victim regarding the receipt of 10 million tenge.
According to information obtained by a Tengrinews.kz correspondent from reliable sources, the detained bloggers are Damir Kusheev and Ruslan Karimov.
The Almaty prosecutor's office reported that the city's police department is currently conducting a pre-trial investigation under Article 194, Part 4, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Extortion committed in a particularly large amount"). It should be noted that the sanctions of this article provide for imprisonment for a term of seven to 15 years with confiscation of property.
