Researchers from Osaka University (Japan) have examined the effects of jujube seeds as a potential treatment for dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases. The study has been published in the scientific journal eLife, as reported by Tengri Life citing "Gazeta.Ru".
Jujube has been utilized in traditional Chinese medicine as a remedy.
During the experiments, the scientists administered hot infusions of dried jujube seeds to mice suffering from Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson's disease, and Lewy body dementia.
The treated animals showed signs of regeneration in both cognitive and motor functions.
Furthermore, after feeding the rodents a powder made from jujube seeds, their cognitive abilities improved to a level surpassing that of healthy mice from the control group.
According to the researchers, the compounds found in the plant appear to inhibit cellular aging and enhance cognitive functions to levels akin to those of younger individuals.
"We hope that the results of our research will lead to the development of preventive measures for dementia that middle-aged and elderly individuals can take at their discretion," stated the authors of the discovery.
