Residents of the village of Kosagash in the Turkestan region are afraid to leave their homes. According to them, wolves and stray dogs have attacked the village. The locals believe that the reason these animals feel so at ease is the lack of street lighting in the area, as reported by Tengrinews.kz, citing the "KTK" TV channel.
Villager Gulaiym Kalmurzaeva shares that wolves are descending from the mountains and are hunting people.
"Wolves and stray dogs roam freely. We are constantly afraid they will tear us apart," the woman says.
People are particularly worried about their children, who have to return home from school in complete darkness. There isn’t a single illuminated street in the village. The situation is no better inside their homes. The power lines, which are over fifty years old, cannot handle the load and frequently short circuit.
"When we watch TV, we have to turn off the refrigerator and all other appliances. To charge a phone, we need to turn off the TV. With this kind of electricity, the refrigerator burned out – now it stands there like a cupboard," says Nazia Turtaeva, a resident of the village.
Officials noted that they are aware of the village's problems and are working to address them. Initially, they hope to provide proper electricity to the homes. This will cost the budget 267 million tenge.
"First and foremost, if we update all the internal utility poles, transformers, and cables, it will be the right move. We haven't looked into street lighting yet. Overall, we are planning a budget project," stated Turdaly Abdaqimov, head of the housing and utilities department of the Kazygurt district akimat.
Earlier, in the Atyrau region, a wolf attacked a person during wintering 15 kilometers from the settlement of Yeltai. A villager was saved from death by colleagues who rushed to help.
