In November of this year, the construction of the first container hub on the shores of the Caspian Sea began in the Mangistau region, which will increase the port capacity of Aktau to 240,000 TEUs per year. The project is being implemented by the "Port Lianyungang" Group of Companies in collaboration with the Aktau Sea Trade Port, reports the correspondent of the Kapital.kz business information center, citing the press service of the Ministry of Transport.
The construction is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
This project will enhance the country's position in the international logistics system and expand the potential of the transport and logistics sector.
The implementation of the hub will facilitate an increase in container transportation in the Trans-Caspian direction through Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, and will redirect some transit cargo from China to Europe.
Currently, land management works are underway. More than 20 units of special equipment are involved at the site.
To date, the volume of container transportation through Kazakhstan's seaports has increased by 84%, reaching 58,000 TEUs, while the growth of container transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TCITR) has been noted at 2.7 times.
Recall that on September 20, 2024, as part of the 8th International Exhibition "Silk Road" in the Chinese city of Xi'an, the founding documents for a joint venture to implement the "Construction of a Container Hub at Aktau Port" project were signed between JSC "KTZ Express," LLC "Port Lianyungang Group," and JSC "NC Aktau Sea Trade Port."
