The Ministry of Finance commented on the news regarding the introduction of a childlessness tax in Kazakhstan, as reported by Tengrinews.kz correspondent.
Previously, Kazakhstani media reported that Majilis deputy Bolat Kerimbek proposed the implementation of a tax on childlessness. The parliament member himself denied this information.
"We met with the residents of Taldykorgan, where we discussed the situation surrounding late marriages. It was mentioned that such taxes existed in Italy and Bulgaria in the past. This is a very important issue that needs to be considered in light of the demographic situation. When people marry late, questions arise about raising children and their development. We discussed this in that context, but some media distorted my words, suggesting that I proposed such a tax," Kerimbek told Tengrinews.kz correspondent in the Majilis corridors on Wednesday.
Nonetheless, we reached out to the Ministry of Finance to inquire whether a childlessness tax could be introduced in Kazakhstan. They responded that they would consider such a proposal if it were to be officially submitted.
"The proposal for the introduction of a 'childlessness tax' has not been officially submitted to the ministry. However, should it be received, it will be reviewed in accordance with the established legislative procedure within the framework of our authority," the Ministry of Finance replied to our editorial's official inquiry.
It is important to note that, in general, the Ministry of National Economy is responsible for making changes to tax legislation.
We remind you that the initiative to introduce a childlessness tax in Kazakhstan was discussed as far back as 2014 and 2010.
