A car drove into a crowd at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. The driver has been detained. According to updated reports, two people have died and nearly 70 are injured. This was announced by the head of the Saxony-Anhalt government, Reiner Haseloff, as reported by Tengrinews.kz, referencing DW.

He noted that the number of casualties from the attack may rise, as some of the injured are in critical condition.

Earlier, German media reported 11 fatalities and dozens of injuries.

The suspect in the incident has been arrested. According to Haseloff, he is a 50-year-old man from Saudi Arabia. He arrived in Germany in 2006 and worked as a doctor.

Haseloff stated that there are suspicions that the attack on the crowd was intentional. He added that there is currently no evidence to suggest that the attacker had accomplices.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz plans to visit the region tomorrow.
