The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has presented Ukraine with an "enhanced" draft agreement regarding minerals between the two countries, reports Tengrinews.kz.
This information comes from Axios, citing Ukrainian and American politicians, as well as other informed sources.
Sources from both sides now indicate that the signing of the document is becoming more likely.
One source revealed that several advisors to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged him to sign the updated proposal to avoid further conflict with Donald Trump and to provide the American president with a rationale for U.S. support for Ukraine.
"The latest draft has been significantly improved and aligns with Ukrainian legislation," the source noted.
Sources informed the publication that negotiations are ongoing and the U.S. has provided Ukraine with an updated version of the document, addressing some of Zelensky's concerns.
On Thursday, in Kyiv, the Ukrainian leader met with U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, to discuss the minerals agreement, the war, the return of prisoners of war, and security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a future peace agreement.
After the meeting, the Ukrainian president issued a statement thanking the U.S. for its assistance and bipartisan support.
"Ukraine is ready for a strong, effective investment and security agreement with the U.S. president. We have proposed the fastest and most constructive path to achieving results. Our team is ready to work 24/7," Zelensky said.
I had a productive meeting with @SPE_Kellogg—a good discussion, many important details. I am grateful to the United States for all the assistance and bipartisan support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

Earlier, Trump's National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that Kyiv should tone down its criticism and sign the agreement regarding rare earth metals, which the U.S. president insists upon.
Recall that Zelensky, during a meeting in Munich with American officials, declined to sign the document, explaining that it lacks "specific details regarding security guarantees."
