The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry lacks leverage over Kazakhstani telecommunications operators. This was stated by Deputy Minister Askat Orazbek, as reported by Tengrinews.kz correspondent.
"I was asked about this last time, and I will respond: we do not have any tools for tariff regulation. We have no ready-made instruments to exert pressure on operators," Orazbek said at a briefing in the Senate.
The official also admitted that he is dissatisfied with the increase in communication and internet tariffs.
"I won’t speak as a deputy minister, but as a citizen of this country: I do not like how tariffs are rising. Therefore, I share the outrage that people feel regarding the increase in tariffs. However, on the other hand, I understand the operators' reasons, as a deputy minister. So, my answer is somewhat ambiguous," he clarified.
Previously, we reported that one of the Kazakhstani operators will have to explain the tariff increases.
