Russia is set to construct a main gas pipeline to supply fuel to the northern and northeastern regions of Kazakhstan, reports Tengrinews.kz.
This information was revealed in a directive from the government of the Russian Federation dated February 18.
The document states that the pipeline's capacity will be 10 billion cubic meters, with compressor stations having a power of 50 MW.
In July 2024, Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev announced that the government is considering two options for gasification of the northern and eastern regions of Kazakhstan: extending the "Saryarka" main gas pipeline or constructing a new pipeline from Russia.
In 2021, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that ensuring a complete gas supply to the north of the country, particularly in the Akmolinsk and North Kazakhstan regions, deserves special attention. Gasification can provide a significant boost to the industrial development of these areas, making them more attractive for business and living.
"This is a matter of national importance," the President stressed at the time.
