The total project cost is 21 billion tenge, as reported by the business information center Kapital.kz, citing the regional akimat.
The akim of Turkestan region, Nuralkhan Kushev, held a meeting with the head of the Global Textile Group, Muzaffar Razakov, during which they discussed the progress of the project aimed at developing the cotton cluster.
Global Textile, one of the largest Uzbek companies involved in the cotton-textile cluster, is implementing a project to open a textile factory and logistics center in the Maktaaral district of Turkestan region. “The foreign company plans to launch five major enterprises that will create over 2,000 permanent jobs. The total project cost is 21 billion tenge,” the press release states.
As part of the Global Textile Turkistan project, a logistics center, cotton processing plant, textile factory, dyeing and spinning workshops, and sewing factories will be launched. The annual capacity of the cotton processing plant will be 13,800 tons. The finished products will be supplied to the domestic market and exported to European countries. The production will utilize Swiss technologies.
A roadmap has been developed to ensure the factory has the necessary infrastructure. The akim of the region assured that joint projects will be implemented according to the plan, and administrative support will be provided at all stages.
In 2024, the company brought in seeds of the "Namangan-77" cotton variety, which were sown over an area of 3,200 hectares. The yield exceeded expectations. Additionally, the construction of a cotton reception point with an annual capacity of 10,000 tons has been completed.
Work is being carried out in close collaboration with local farmers. Agronomists from Uzbekistan share their expertise with farmers during planting and harvesting campaigns. According to the plan, the textile factory is expected to start operations in 2027.
Global Textile is one of the largest full-cycle enterprises, covering all stages of production from cotton processing and yarn spinning to fabric production and garment sewing. Currently, over 5,000 people are employed in the company's 15 facilities located in Tashkent and Fergana regions.
