The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, announced a proposal for a temporary ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, as reported by Tengrinews.kz citing DW.
He noted that the partial ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, lasting one month, would involve a halt to air and naval strikes, as well as attacks on energy infrastructure.
"In the event of a ceasefire, it will be very difficult to verify whether it is being observed on the front lines," Macron remarked, adding that the length of the front line is equivalent to the distance from Paris to Budapest.
According to him, "there will be no European troops on Ukrainian soil in the coming weeks." Negotiations could last for many weeks, and a peacekeeping contingent might be deployed after a peace agreement is signed.
Macron also added that his country and other European nations should allocate between 3 percent and 3.5 percent of their gross domestic product for defense.
"The European Commission should take a more creative approach to funding defense expenditures," Macron stated.
Media reports indicate that preparations for a meeting between Trump and Putin are being expedited.
Recall that on February 28, Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House. During the conversation, the Ukrainian president engaged in a public dispute with U.S. Vice President JD Vance, and subsequently with Trump.
Zelensky made his first statement following the altercation with Trump.
After the public conflict, Zelensky left the White House prematurely. The parties did not sign an agreement regarding mineral resources. European leaders expressed their support for Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine.
The U.S. will cease funding military assistance to Ukraine, according to the White House.
