A group of fraudsters has been uncovered in the West Kazakhstan region, who posed as the victims' children to extort money from them, reports Tengrinews.kz, citing Polisia.kz.
The group consisted of three suspects, one of whom entered a general chat created for discussing educators' events via the WhatsApp application.
"After reviewing the messages, he began contacting chat participants in private messages, impersonating their children and asking for money transfers, claiming that his phone was supposedly turned off. Some residents provided their card details and CVV codes. Subsequently, the fraudsters withdrew money from the victims' accounts and organized cashing out through acquaintances, who profited from the 'earnings'," the police reported.

The police advise Kazakhstani citizens to be cautious not only when communicating with strangers over the phone but also in group chats.
Recall that earlier, SMS alerts began arriving at Kazakhstani citizens from the 1414 service. Residents of the republic are advised not to share codes received from this service with third parties.
