Doctors have reported an unexpected side effect following vaccination against COVID-19 with the Pfizer vaccine: unexplained gigantomastia, or excessive enlargement of breast tissue in a woman, as stated by Tengrinews.kz referencing PubMed.
A week after receiving the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the woman experienced an increase in breast size. After receiving the second dose, her breasts became even larger.
"True parenchymal changes in the breast following COVID-19 vaccination are extremely rare. Cases of gigantomastia associated with pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia (PASH) are also uncommon. The patient in this case report exhibited both conditions," the researchers reported.
As a result, doctors had to surgically reduce the size of her breasts.
The relationship between the COVID-19 vaccine, PASH, and breast hypertrophy requires further investigation to understand the spectrum of vaccine reactions, according to the scientists.
