The most crime-ridden city in Kazakhstan has been named.

The General Prosecutor's Office has identified the regions of Kazakhstan where an increase in crime rates is observed by the end of 2024, reports Tengrinews.kz correspondent.

According to the Committee on Legal Statistics and Special Accounts of the Prosecutor General's Office, there is a positive trend in the overall crime rate declining by 5.3 percent (from 140,272 to 132,778).

Increases are noted in the Mangistau region – by 12.2 percent (from 3,097 to 3,474), Atyrau region – by 8.5 percent (from 4,283 to 4,647), Pavlodar region – by 5.6 percent (from 5,039 to 5,322), Kyzylorda region – by 4.6 percent (from 2,871 to 3,003), Ulytau region – by 2.8 percent (from 1,278 to 1,314), Almaty region – by 1.6 percent (from 10,223 to 10,385), and Akmolinsk region – by 0.7 percent (from 5,084 to 5,120).

"The highest number of crimes was committed in the cities of Almaty – 24,965 (18.8 percent) and Astana – 17,339 (13.1 percent), as well as in Almaty region – 10,385 (7.8 percent) and Karaganda region – 7,562 (5.7 percent)," the statement said.

Of the total number of criminal offenses, 34 percent are frauds (45,156), 23 percent are thefts (30,593), 6.3 percent are drug-related crimes (8,363), 1.2 percent are robberies (1,551), 1.2 percent are hooliganism (1,615), 0.8 percent are livestock thefts (1,051), 0.4 percent are murders (566), 0.3 percent are rapes (421), and other offenses account for 32.7 percent (43,462).

A decrease is observed in minor offenses – by -7.6 percent (from 21,826 to 20,178), medium offenses – by -16.8 percent (from 58,874 to 48,992), and serious offenses – by -2.2 percent (from 37,548 to 36,736).

At the same time, a significant reduction in thefts is noted – by -28.3 percent (from 42,639 to 30,593), including mobile phone thefts – by -30.9 percent (from 10,530 to 7,273), apartment burglaries – by -33.5 percent (from 3,566 to 2,373), and vehicle thefts – by -42.2 percent (from 258 to 149).

The number of livestock thefts has also decreased by -30.9 percent (from 1,520 to 1,051).

It is worth noting that earlier, Senator Nuria Niyazova reported an increase in crimes against the sexual integrity of minors in Kazakhstan.
