The transport police department provided details about a powerful explosion near the old railway station in Astana that occurred on the night of February 14, reports Tengrinews.kz correspondent.
It was reported that at 00:25, a container that arrived by train exploded on track 12 of the sorting yard at the Astana station. There are no casualties. One person sustained minor cuts to their hand. There is no threat to passengers or residents of nearby areas.
"In connection with this incident, the transport police department has opened a criminal case under the article 'Violation of traffic safety rules or the operation of railway transport.' The department's leadership immediately arrived at the scene. A special operational group has been formed and has already begun investigating all the circumstances of the incident," the statement said.
Currently, an investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances surrounding the event.
Recall that on the night of February 14, a powerful explosion occurred in the area of the old railway station in Astana. According to eyewitness reports on social media, residents of the surrounding and neighboring areas felt the shockwave. In some places, windows were even blown out.
According to the press service of KTZh, a loud noise was reported in a freight container at the sorting track of the Astana station. Preliminary information suggests that the container contained cargo - electrical equipment (transformers, generators).
