Will the hockey club "Barys" continue to participate in the open championship of Russia — the Kontinental Hockey League, or will it withdraw from the competition? The correspondent of Caravan.kz managed to obtain an answer to this question from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan.
It is no secret that in light of the anti-records and significant defeats, which have left "Barys" at the bottom of the KHL standings for the 2024/25 season with no chance of making the playoffs, discussions are ongoing in Russia about the feasibility of the team's participation in the KHL in the upcoming seasons.
Moreover, this season, the youth and junior teams of "Barys" were prepared to withdraw from the championships in Russia, but they were soon allowed to complete the current season.
As for the adult "Barys," the question of the team's participation in the KHL in future seasons remains open. The correspondent of "Karavan" reached out to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan for clarification.
"As of today, the issue of the main team 'Barys' exiting the participants of the Kontinental Hockey League has not been raised. In considering the situation regarding the participation of youth teams and given that a significant portion of the Russian Federation's hockey championship for the 2024-2025 season has already taken place, the ministry has recommended completing the current season. The hockey club 'Barys' is funded through sponsorship," stated the Committee for Sports and Physical Culture of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan in response to our inquiry.
Additionally, during the Winter Asian Games 2025, "Barys" will play with a weakened roster — the main team has been called up to the Kazakhstan national team, which still has medal hopes in continental competitions.
