The National Security Committee reported arrests in Almaty and the Almaty region, as reported by Tengrinews.kz.
On November 7, the NSC, in coordination with the Almaty region prosecutor's office and with the participation of law enforcement, detained five citizens of Kazakhstan on suspicion of organizing religious extremist activities in Almaty, the Almaty region, and the Ulytau region. Additionally, 17 individuals were subjected to preventive measures in the form of a travel ban due to their involvement in the activities of a banned organization.
"During searches at the residences of the suspects, religious literature and other material evidence were seized. Among these individuals, four previously had convictions for extremist crimes, and nine were issued official warnings about the inadmissibility of participating in the activities of a banned organization," the statement said.
A pre-trial investigation is being conducted under parts 1 and 2 of Article 405 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Other information is not subject to disclosure in accordance with part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Recall that earlier the NSC detained two drug trafficking groups in the Zhambyl region, suspected of transporting and distributing narcotics in especially large quantities.
