Fighters from the ruling Shiite movement "Ansar Allah" (Houthi) in northern Yemen targeted the American aircraft carrier "Abraham Lincoln" in the Arabian Sea, along with two destroyers in the Red Sea. This was reported on Tuesday by the military representative of the movement, Yahya Saria, as conveyed by Tengrinews.kz citing RIA Novosti.
Saria stated that the attack was conducted using cruise missiles and drones.
"The missile and drone forces of the Yemeni Armed Forces, with the help of the Almighty, successfully carried out two significant military operations. The first targeted the American aircraft carrier 'Abraham Lincoln' in the Arabian Sea using a series of cruise missiles and drones, while the American adversary was preparing to carry out a hostile operation against our country," the statement reads.
According to Saria, the actions of the Houthis were successful, and a planned attack on Yemen was reportedly thwarted.
The second operation was aimed at two U.S. destroyers in the Red Sea. It was "successfully carried out using drones and ballistic missiles," Saria stated. He indicated that both attacks lasted for eight hours.
The Shiite movement "Ansar Allah" controls a significant portion of the Yemeni coastline along the Red Sea. Earlier, in light of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis expressed their support for Palestine and their intention to attack any ships associated with Israel, urging other nations to withdraw their crews and avoid approaching them at sea. The Houthis emphasized that they do not interfere with the freedom of navigation in the region and do not target vessels from other countries.
The U.S. and the U.K. have been striking Houthi targets since mid-January, describing this as a response to threats to the freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
