The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has called for an arms embargo against Israel, the cessation of trade with it, and its isolation on the international stage, reports Tengrinews.kz citing Anadolu.

The agency notes that the head of state made these comments during a speech at a special session on Lebanon and Palestine, organized as part of the D-8 ("Islamic Eight") summit in Cairo, Egypt.

The Turkish leader urged Islamic countries to take the lead in actions that can be taken against Israel's unlawful activities.

Regarding the prospects for resolving the Palestinian issue, he pointed out that the long-term goal of D-8 countries should be to initiate a negotiation process aimed at implementing a two-state solution.

Erdoğan emphasized that Israel disregards Syria's territorial integrity, including the expansion of illegal settlements in the Golan Heights. He called on the Islamic world to respond more decisively to "illegal actions that threaten the stability of Syria and the region."

He stressed the necessity of urging as many countries as possible, especially among D-8 members, to join the case regarding genocide in the Gaza Strip at the International Court of Justice, initiated by South Africa against Israel.

According to him, Lebanon, on the other hand, is facing additional difficulties caused by both physical destruction and the political and social repercussions of Israeli attacks.

"Since October 7, Islamic countries have been trying to stop the genocide in Gaza and find a permanent solution to the Palestinian issue by proposing initiatives on various platforms. We are pleased to observe Egypt's efforts in this process. However, the Israeli administration continues to escalate its attacks, relying on the open support of America and the indirect support of many Western countries," he added.

The Turkish leader stated that it is now more crucial than ever to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza in the short term. He expressed hope that establishing a ceasefire in Lebanon and the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria would usher in a "more positive period."

The President appealed to D-8 countries to intensify efforts to establish a just and lasting peace in the region.

It is worth noting that in October of this year, Turkey announced the launch of the "Joint Letter" initiative demanding an arms embargo against Israel. Ankara called on all countries to take a principled stance and support this collective initiative.
