On February 11, a teenager attacked a 5-year-old boy with a knife in the elevator of a residential building. The tragedy has shocked the neighbors, many of whom cannot believe that such an incident occurred in their housing complex. A correspondent from Tengrinews.kz walked around the area to find out what the residents had to say about the event.
The residents of the building are discussing the incident, and there is a palpable sense of fear and tension among them. The neighbors of the injured boy are still in shock from what happened. They knew the five-year-old Batyr as a very kind, active, and sociable child. According to one resident, he was a true favorite in the community: he participated in clubs, easily interacted with people, and was always in a good mood.
"He is very sociable, goes everywhere: to school and to clubs. He is our favorite, so energetic and kind. He talks to everyone, always sharing stories or asking questions in the elevator. Even when I'm at home, I see him coming back from school and then heading to his activities. I'm still in shock from all of this," - shared a neighbor.

According to neighbors, the attacker is not from the area: he came from another district. Residents recall that the aggressor's family led a reclusive life, avoiding interaction with others and keeping to themselves. Many noted that the teenager occasionally displayed signs of distress.
"They are not very sociable. Sometimes, we hear noise from their apartment, like a boy screaming. I can hear it from the kitchen. And then suddenly, silence. I know the mother and grandmother, but we don't communicate," - recounted a woman.

After the tragedy, residents are discussing the safety of their children in the building's chat groups. They are contemplating what actions to take next and what measures law enforcement will implement.
"I just read about this; I didn't know before. The building's chat is saying that this boy lived here, but now the housing cooperative chairman said he has been isolated. This is just outrageous, it's unbelievable. I don't know this boy at all. The housing cooperative told people not to worry. But in the chat, there is definitely panic; everyone is saying they are afraid to let their kids outside now," - shared a resident.
