In Almaty, two women have been detained on suspicion of illegal drug possession and trafficking. One of them previously worked as an investigator in the Karaganda region, reports Tengrinews.kz.
Information about the arrest of a former investigator from Karaganda has spread on social media. A photograph of her service ID and badge, allegedly seized during the arrest, was also published. According to the image, the ID of the ex-law enforcement officer is signed by the head of the police department of the Karaganda region and is valid until May 2027.
The press service of the Almaty police department commented on the circulating information. The agency confirmed the detention of two 25-year-old women. During a search of their rented apartment, narcotic substances were discovered and seized, with their ownership and origin to be determined through judicial chemical examination.
"Employees of the anti-drug crime department of the Almaty city police have detained two 25-year-old women on suspicion of illegal drug possession and trafficking. The suspects have been placed in a temporary detention facility. Further circumstances are being established," the press service of the Almaty police department added.
The press service of the Karaganda region police department confirmed that one of the women detained in Almaty with drugs previously held the position of investigator in the regional police department.
"She was dismissed from the internal affairs bodies in August of last year. Upon her dismissal, she reported the loss of her service ID," the press service of the Karaganda region police department emphasized.
Police officers convicted for torture in Karaganda
Recall that it was previously reported that two senior operatives from the criminal police department in Karaganda were convicted for torture. They were sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a medium-security penal institution.
