In Almaty, the author of the satirical public page QazNews24, Temirlan Yensebek, has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility, as reported by Tengrinews.kz.
According to the Almaty police department, a criminal case is being investigated against the admin of the public page for inciting interethnic hatred through social media posts.
"The author of one of the public pages has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility on suspicion of committing this criminal offense," the Almaty police press service reported.
Under the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan (Article 174 "Incitement of social, national, clan, racial, class, or religious hatred"), the suspect could face up to seven years in prison.
