A video has circulated online: a resident of Almaty complained about a taxi driver who, according to him, was fulfilling an order while under the influence of drugs, reports Tengrinews.kz.

The video’s author stated that the incident occurred last summer.

"I was at a night establishment and called a taxi to go home. While driving, we started chatting with the driver. I noticed he kept sniffing. Since I have allergies myself, I began to suggest various remedies to help him. He listened silently. When we arrived at my destination, he said to me: 'Brother, I see you're a decent guy. Actually, I don’t have allergies; I’m using mephedrone.' I was shocked, thinking: 'Well, if you’re using it, that’s your business.' Then he pulled out his phone, prepared a line, and offered it to me. I refused, and he snorted it in front of me. I was left speechless," the Almaty resident shared.

The young man suggested that some taxi drivers might be moonlighting as dealers and introducing young people to drugs.

"From what I understood, some taxi drivers pick up young people near nightclubs, drive them around, and skillfully introduce them to this crap. They offer a free sample, and once you get hooked, you’ll take their contact and start searching for it yourself. In this way, they become dealers for these individuals," says the video’s author.

The Almaty police department commented on the video, stating that an investigation will be conducted regarding this matter.

Recall that it was previously reported that Kazakhstan will ease penalties for drug couriers and stashers. This new measure was adopted by the Senate as part of amendments to the law on combating the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogs, precursors, and potent substances. As a result, over 1,000 individuals convicted of drug offenses may be released early.
