The Trump administration is expecting public apologies from Zelensky. This was reported by DW.
"The White House has privately indicated that public apologies from Zelensky are necessary to mend relations. Despite expressing support for Zelensky, European leaders are urging him to reconcile with Trump," the publication cites Bloomberg.
It is noted that many European leaders, following the controversial exchange between Trump and Zelensky in the White House and the premature expulsion of the Ukrainian delegation from the Oval Office, supported the Ukrainian president, but some urged him to try to restore relations with the United States.
In particular, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte previously reached out to Zelensky, asking him to "find a way" to rebuild relations with Donald Trump and the American administration.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron promised Ukraine hundreds of billions of euros in aid. It has been reported that the European Union will consider providing Ukraine with a new large-scale financial assistance package amounting to hundreds of billions of euros at an extraordinary summit on Thursday, March 6, as stated by President Macron in an interview with La Tribune, published on Saturday, March 1.
"The aim of this meeting is to strengthen support for Ukraine and to instruct the European Commission to launch a large-scale joint financing program as soon as possible, as this concerns our security. We are talking about financing in the hundreds of billions of euros. EU leaders will also discuss the creation of a European security architecture," Macron said.
Recall that on Friday, February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky left the White House early after a public argument with Donald Trump and U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
Trump stated that the Ukrainian leader does not respect the United States and is "not ready for peace." Subsequently, many European leaders, as well as EU officials, openly supported Zelensky and Ukraine.
