"In Almaty, police have shut down a call center whose employees were deceiving citizens of a neighboring country under the pretext of investing in cryptocurrency and the stock market. A total of 24 suspects have been detained, five of whom are foreign nationals. The office contained and had seized 55 computers, 6 laptops, 30 mobile phones, personal data of citizens from the neighboring country, notebooks with recommendations, and scripts for conversations with potential victims." As clarified by Kanysh Ashjanov, the senior operative officer for particularly important cases at the Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the tasks of the call center employees included searching for and persuading individuals interested in crypto investments.
"After a phone contact using spoofed numbers, links to phishing websites were sent to these individuals, through which personal data of the victims was subsequently collected. Under their influence, citizens then transferred their savings to pre-prepared cryptocurrency wallets." Kanysh Ashjanov
According to him, a criminal case is currently under investigation, and necessary investigative actions are being carried out.
