The release states that a 24-year-old man was detained at the capital's railway station, where a suitcase containing over 8 kg of the narcotic "mefedrone" was seized.
The detained individual arrived from Almaty and intended to distribute the drugs in Astana through hidden stashes.
"It has been established that the suspect was acting in conjunction with a 21-year-old friend who had previously left the train in Karaganda to carry out a similar task. He has also been detained, and approximately 600 g of synthetic drugs were seized from him. As a result of an operational combination, another accomplice in the drug trafficking scheme has been identified – a 30-year-old man," said KuanDYK Alzhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Combating Drug Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
All individuals involved have been placed in a temporary detention facility.
"Work is underway to identify other individuals involved," concluded KuanDYK Alzhanov.
