Жительница Шымкента, утопившая в ванной свою шестилетнюю племянницу, получила 20 лет тюрьмы.

The proceedings took place in a specialized interdistrict city court for criminal cases during an open hearing. The woman was charged under Part 3 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan for "Murder of a Minor."

The tragedy occurred in June 2024 when the city resident was in a rented apartment on Akpan Batyr Street with her sister's daughter.

"Angered that her niece E., born in 2018, woke up and began to scream, the defendant bound the child's hands and feet, beat her, and threw her to the floor. As a result, the girl lost consciousness. The defendant then filled the bathtub with water and drowned her niece, thereby committing intentional murder," the court's press service explained.

The prosecutor requested a 20-year prison sentence for the woman. Meanwhile, the legal representative of the victim forgave the defendant and asked for leniency. The accused herself did not admit her guilt.

The court found K. guilty and sentenced her to 20 years in prison. She will serve her sentence in medium-security correctional facilities.

The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
