On February 5, 2025, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Yerzhan Sadenov briefed the president on the criminal situation in the country and the implementation of the "Law and Order" principle by the internal affairs authorities.

The minister also reported that, as a result of the comprehensive measures taken, the number of crimes in the country decreased by more than 12,700 in 2024.

Additionally, according to Sadenov, there has been a significant reduction in criminal activities in recent years, including particularly serious crimes such as murders, robberies, thefts, and burglaries. The implementation of modern investigative methods has also improved the resolution rates across all categories of criminal offenses.

He continued by discussing the results of efforts to locate criminals. In 2024, the police detained 1,949 wanted individuals.

At the same time, he provided updates on the execution of the president's directives concerning the fight against organized, cyber, and drug-related crimes, as well as the prevention of offenses:

  • 264 individuals are being held criminally responsible for participation in organized crime groups;
  • Over the past 12 months, around 7,500 internet resources containing information about drug distribution have been identified, nearly 22 tons of drugs have been prevented from entering circulation, and 64 drug laboratories have been dismantled;
  • 65 million calls from internet scammers have been blocked. 48 SIM-box devices for number substitution have been detected. Scammers attempted to transfer more than 2 billion tenge out of the country.

In conclusion, he informed about measures taken to protect the rights of minors, strengthen migration control, ensure road safety, and improve the criminal enforcement system.
